Priya Bapat, Co-Director

Priya first joined Hands on DC in 2009 as a Site Coordinator and Fundraising Committee member. After a few years away, she rejoined Hands on DC as the Volunteer Chair and is now excited to be co-directing the organization for the 2017-2018 year. Outside of Hands on DC, Priya is a global development consultant and exploring her newfound hobbies of beekeeping and drumming.

Michael Mitchell, Co-Director

Michael works as an environmental consultant for the Federal Aviation Administration, primarily working in environmental health and safety, as well as regulatory compliance. He first joined Hands on DC in 2014 as a logistics co-chair, helping to organize the delivery of supplies to Hands on DC events. He currently volunteers as the organization’s 2017-2018 Co-Director, driving the organizations volunteer efforts and events. Michael is an avid football fan and spends much of his free time reading and re-reading his favorite novels.

Tori Thompson, Communications Co-Chair

Tori is an Environmental Consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton with a background in environmental sustainability and communications. She began volunteering with Hands on DC in 2016, and joined the Executive Committee later that year. As Communications Co-Chair she will be managing Hands on DC's social media and outreach efforts and producing the organization's newsletter. Tori has a number of hobbies that keep her busy outside of work and volunteering, including travel, skiing, and creating her own botanical hair and body oils.

Amandine Coudert, Communications Co-Chair

Amandine first volunteered with Hands on DC in the summer 2015 and joined the Executive Committee in 2016. As Communications Co-Chair, she is managing social media and other communications platforms for Hands on DC events. Amandine grew up in France where she developed a passion for Cirque du Soleil. She is now living in the Logan Circle neighborhood of DC from which she enjoys the walk to all of DC’s monuments.

Ashley Spencer, Events Co-Chair

Ashley is a Marketing Manager for a government contractor based in DC. She has worked in government communications for over 6 years with extensive experience coordinating events with up to 200+ attendees. She joined Hands on DC in 2014 as a volunteer and site coordinator. In 2017, Ashley joined the executive committee as an events chair where she plans and coordinates our social events including happy hours, social sports leagues, and more. Ashley grew up by the shore in southern New Jersey but she now calls Springfield, VA her home, where she enjoys breaking out the power tools for the occasional DIY project.

Taylor Leaming, Events Co-Chair

Taylor is a public relations professional for a health and wellness firm in Arlington, VA. She joined Hands on DC in 2017 as an events chair to use her experience (and hobby!) of planning events for a good cause. As events co-chair, she will be managing the planning of social events including happy hours, social sports leagues, and more. Taylor is originally from Massachusetts and aims to visit all 50 states by the age of 30.

Nadia Elguindy, Fundraising Co-Chair

As a development professional Nadia has experience overseeing fundraising efforts and implementation of strategies for organizational growth. She joined the Executive Committee of Hands on DC in 2016 as chair of the fundraising committee. She is an avid traveler and enjoys trail runs in DC.

Zachary Rubenfeld, Information and Technology Co-Chair

Zach is a federal consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton. He graduated recently with a degree in mechanical engineering and, upon moving to DC, decided to get involved with Hands on DC to make a difference in the community. Zach's technical background will aid him in managing maintaining the Hands on DC  website.

Maria Schwartz, Information and Technology Co-Chair

Maria is a business and university consultant. Upon completion of her doctoral degree in 2015 she founded the Vivid Connect LLC, a company that helps small businesses succeed in a global marketplace. She joined Hands on DC in 2009 as a muralist volunteer and has been creating inspiring murals all throughout DC school. Bringing a breadth of experience from marketing, IT, entrepreneurship and innovation, Maria currently volunteers as the co-chair of the Information and Technology team and plans to take Hands on DC's digital presence to a new level. Outside of work, she enjoys a wide range of activities from salsa dancing and painting to her newly discovered hobbies of flying trapeze and knife throwing.

Jessica Sims, Sites Co-Chair

Jessica serves as the Marketing and Events Manager for an educational non-profit in DC. She began her career in Television News at the NBC News Bureau in Washington, D.C. She has been volunteering with Hands on DC since 2010 at the annual Work-a-Thons and joined the Executive Committee in 2016.  Jessica volunteers extensively in her local community, with special emphasis on mentoring K-12 school-aged girls. She also serves internationally through medical and ministry missions to Haiti and Kenya. 

Charlotte Healy, Sites Co-Chair

Charlotte began her career as a 6th grade teacher for several years in South Carolina. She is now a Ph.D. student studying Education Policy and Leadership at the University of Maryland, College Park. She joined Hands on DC in 2018 as the co-chair of the Sites Committee. In her spare time, Charlotte enjoys reading, playing board games, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.

Mario L. Lento, Logistics Co-Chair

Mario works as an aerospace engineer at the Johns Hopkins University - Applied Physics Laboratory, conducting research to develop and apply space science, engineering, and technology for space exploration. Since moving to the District in late 2014 he has been attending Hands on DC events and in 2018 he joined the Executive Committee as the logistics co-chair. In this role, Mario will help manage supplies and logistical requirements for events. In addition to working with Hands on DC, Mario runs a scholarship fund for students at his alma mater. He is an avid hockey fan, closely following the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers.

Dan Mullery, Logistics Co-Chair

Dan works in government accounting and recently joined the Marine Corps Reserves as a Ground Supply Officer. He first volunteered with Hands on DC in 2013 and joined the Executive Committee in 2016 to use his experience more effectively. As logistics co-chair he will be managing supplies and logistical requirements for Hands on DC events. Dan recently got married and lives in the Cleveland Park neighborhood of DC with his wife and year-old Brittany Spaniel.

Shawn Bucholtz, Logistics Co-Chair

Shawn has been involved in Hands on DC since 2003. He is the co-chair of the logistics committee, responsible for estimating project needs and ordering supplies. Shawn is the Director of Housing and Demographic Analysis at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, where he oversees HUD's major housing market surveys.

Nic Hill, Volunteer Recruitment Co-Chair

Nic has spent her career working for service organizations including AmeriCorps NCCC, Teach For America, and City Year.  She now works for DC Public Schools and has been a member of the Hands on team since 2016 having first volunteered for the group in 2010.  As Volunteer Recruitment Co-Chair, Nic’s job is to invite the public to upcoming Hands on events, happy hours, and other festivities.  Nic can be found on any given night in and around D.C. lacing up her dancing shoes!
