Hands on DC People

Andrea Gudeon

Co-Director Hands on DC 2007

Andrea Gudeon has been involved with Hands on DC for the past five years in a variety of capacities, including serving as Webmaster and IT Committee Chair, assisting on the Recruitment and Publicity committees, and co-chairing the Recruitment Committee, before taking on the role as co-director of the 2007 Hands on DC work-a-thon.

Andrea first became involved with HoDC in 2003 the way many at HoDC become involved: word-of-mouth from a colleague who was the 2003 event co-director. Andrea was excited by the organization’s commitment to public education. As a graduate of New York City’s public schools, she’s seen the challenges a city public school system faces, and believes that with the proper encouragement, anyone can thrive in such an environment.

Andrea moved to DC in 1990 to attend The American University, where her sense of community service was nurtured. Her job at a small publishing firm is also in downtown DC. “DC is my home now, and I truly enjoy this opportunity to give back to my city,” she says. “Hands on DC is an extraordinary organization that makes such a difference in the community, and it’s amazing to see the work-a-thon come together each year. I’m honored to be volunteering with a great group of people and am looking forward to another successful year!”

As a resident of the District of Columbia, she brings to Hands on DC many years of experience, a life-long dedication to volunteer service and civic responsibility, and her belief in the importance of a healthy education system.
