Hands on DC People

Caroline Clayton

Co-Director
Hands on DC 2006

Caroline Clayton has been involved with Hands on DC for the past seven years in a variety of capacities starting with team leader and progressing to regional coordinator and co-chair of the Sites Committee before taking on the role as co-director of the 2006 Hands on DC work-a-thon.

As graduate of the public school system in Upper Arlington, Ohio, the mission of HoDC resonates strongly with her life experience. Says Clayton, "My career in community development has only solidified my belief that a good education system is vitally important to healthy communities." Clayton, who initially became involved with HoDC to continue her dedication to community service, notes that the reason she stays involved is "because of the simplicity of its mission and the great people I've worked with."

Throughout her career, Clayton has volunteered and worked in a variety of capacities for various nonprofit and service organizations in Ohio, Virginia and the District of Columbia, most notably as a program instructor for the Close Up Foundation, a non-profit organization that brings students to DC for a week-long civic education session. There, she was responsible for teaching Close Up students about federal government, current issues, and civic responsibility. While completing her graduate degree, she worked in the city manager's office of the City of Upper Arlington (Ohio) before returning to Washington, DC, as a Presidential Management Intern. Today, she works for the federal government.

As a resident of the District of Columbia, she brings to Hands on DC many years of experience, a life-long dedication to volunteer service and civic responsibility, and her belief in the importance of a healthy education system.

She is a graduate of the University of Richmond and received a master of public administration from The Ohio State University's School of Public Policy and Management.
